# WASM Procedures: Conclusion

:::caution[Planned design: not yet available in the server]
The current `heliosdb-full` server does not run WASM procedures. SQL that
would create or call one fails with SQLSTATE `0A000`. This page describes the
planned design for this upcoming feature. Only the [Go SDK](https://www.heliosdb.com/docs/full/guides/features/wasm_procedures_language_sdks/#go-sdk) is
published. Rust, JavaScript and Python examples are illustrations: no SDK
package exists for those languages. See the
[Quick Start](https://www.heliosdb.com/docs/full/guides/features/wasm_procedures_quick_start/) for what works today.

## Conclusion

The planned HeliosDB WASM Procedures bring the following to database stored procedures:

### Key Capabilities

1. **True Polyglot Procedures** - Write database procedures in 4 languages (Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go)
2. **Sub-10ms Execution** - Typical operations complete in under 10 ms inside a fully sandboxed runtime
3. **Capability-Based Security** - Fine-grained permission control at the database level
4. **Universal WASM Compatibility** - Run procedures across any platform without modification

### Operations

The planned design includes:

- **Monitoring**: Real-time metrics, profiling, and debugging tools
- **Security**: Capability-based isolation with resource limits
- **SDKs**: SDKs for 4 programming languages (the Go SDK is published today)

### Performance Benefits

**Execution Speed:**
- 8-10x faster than traditional PL/pgSQL procedures
- Sub-10ms execution for typical operations
- AOT compilation for instant startup

**Resource Efficiency:**
- 4-5x lower memory usage
- Instance pooling reduces overhead by 50%
- Efficient module caching

**Scalability:**
- Thousands of concurrent executions
- Zero-downtime updates
- Horizontal scaling support

### Security Advantages

**Sandboxed Execution:**
- 100% memory isolation
- Capability-based permission system
- Resource limits (CPU, memory, fuel)
- System call filtering

**13 Capability Types:**
- Fine-grained control over database access
- Network isolation options
- File system restrictions
- Cryptographic operations control

### Developer Experience

**Language Flexibility:**
- Use Rust for high-performance computation
- Use Python for data science and ML
- Use JavaScript for JSON processing
- Use Go for concurrent operations

**Modern Tooling:**
- Full IDE support with autocomplete
- Type safety and compile-time checks
- Unit testing outside the database
- CI/CD integration

**Easy Migration:**
- Gradual migration from legacy procedures
- A/B testing support
- Shadow mode for validation

## Get Started
