Blockchain-Based Immutable Audit Trail

HeliosDB Full plans a tamper-evident audit trail for regulated industries: every data change recorded in a hash-chained, Merkle-tree log that auditors verify independently, so that an edit to past history is detectable. The blockchain-backed audit trail and data lineage are on the roadmap and not in the current release; HeliosProxy's audit-chain plugin keeps a hash-chained, tamper-evident audit log today.

Planned: the blockchain-backed audit trail and data lineage are on the roadmap. Read the documentation.

Problem Being Solved

Core Problem: Traditional database audit logs can be modified or deleted by privileged users, making them unreliable for regulatory compliance, legal discovery, and fraud investigation. Organizations face audit failures, compliance fines, and legal liability.

Root Cause: Audit logs lack cryptographic guarantees:

  • DBA Access: Database administrators can modify any data, including logs
  • No Tamper Evidence: Changes to historical records are undetectable
  • Log Deletion: Audit logs can be truncated or deleted
  • Time Manipulation: Timestamps can be backdated
  • No Verification: Cannot prove data hasn't been altered

Conclusion

Organizations can:

  • Prove Integrity: Cryptographic evidence of non-tampering
  • Meet Compliance: SOX, HIPAA, FDA, SEC ready
  • Reduce Risk: Litigation-defensible records
  • Build Trust: Verifiable data history
