Multi-Protocol Database Unification

HeliosDB Full consolidates databases for multi-protocol applications: one server opens PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis and SQL Server listeners plus an HTTP gateway. PostgreSQL, MySQL and Oracle clients and the HTTP gateway read and write the same tables, and the Redis listener keeps its data in memory. MongoDB, Cassandra and SQL Server clients connect and authenticate; reading and writing tables through them is planned.

MongoDB, Cassandra and SQL Server clients can connect and authenticate, and reading and writing HeliosDB tables through them is planned, as are the GraphQL, Snowflake and DB2 interfaces. Read the documentation.

Problem Being Solved

Root Cause: Every database vendor created proprietary wire protocols. This creates:

  • Migration Lock-In: Switching databases requires rewriting every application
  • Data Silos: Cross-database queries require ETL pipelines and data duplication
  • Skill Fragmentation: Need separate experts for each database technology
  • Cost Multiplication: Pay for licensing, infrastructure, and operations for each system

Concrete Examples

Example 2: Healthcare System Integration

Company Profile: Regional healthcare network with 12 hospitals

Challenge: HIPAA-compliant data consolidation across legacy systems

Example 3: SaaS Platform Multi-Tenant Consolidation

Challenge: Customers require different database connectivity options

Implementation Roadmap

Customer Onboarding Journey

Week 1: Assessment
├── Automated protocol compatibility scan
├── Workload analysis
└── Migration complexity score

Week 2-3: Pilot
├── Deploy HeliosDB cluster
├── Configure primary protocol endpoint
└── Validate application connectivity

Week 4-6: Migration
├── Data migration (incremental CDC)
├── Application cutover (blue/green)
└── Performance validation

Week 7-8: Production
├── Full production traffic
├── Monitoring and alerting
└── Secondary protocol enablement

Conclusion

By eliminating the traditional trade-off between database diversity and operational complexity, organizations can:

  • Accelerate innovation by removing integration barriers
  • Improve security through unified access control
  • Enable agility with instant protocol availability

Performance depends on workload and hardware. Published figures are measured on representative fixtures; see the benchmarks page and reproduce them on your own workload.
