HeliosProxy v0.4.2 install skills: 22 Operator Skills for Postgres Ops via Claude/Codex
v0.4.2 is a patch release with one new feature: heliosdb-proxy install skills. Run it once, and 22 operator skills land in ~/.claude/skills/ and ~/.codex/skills/ — a complete Postgres-ops playbook that any LLM coding agent can read and act on.
The subcommand
cargo install heliosdb-proxy
heliosdb-proxy install skills
# Targeting
heliosdb-proxy install skills --target claude # only ~/.claude/skills
heliosdb-proxy install skills --target codex # only ~/.codex/skills
heliosdb-proxy install skills --target both # default
# Symlink mode (re-runs on binary upgrade refresh in place)
heliosdb-proxy install skills --symlink
# Dry run (print plan, don't write)
heliosdb-proxy install skills --dry-run
The bundle is embedded in the binary via include_dir!, so cargo install users with no repo clone get it. Package size went from 188 files / 3.0 MiB to 214 files / 3.2 MiB — entirely from the embedded skill bundle.
What's in the bundle
22 skills across pool tuning, failover orchestration, time-travel replay, plugin authoring & signing, OCI distribution, and PG-12→17 upgrade orchestration. Each SKILL.md includes:
- The exact CLI / SQL / admin-API verb the skill exposes.
- Required prerequisites (running proxy, plugin trust root, OCI registry credentials).
- A single working example you can copy-paste.
- Common failure modes with diagnostic commands.
An aggregate AGENTS.md at project root indexes them all.
Why it matters for ops
A junior on-call engineer using Claude Code to investigate a stuck failover doesn't have to learn HeliosProxy's admin API surface from scratch. The agent reads heliosproxy-failover-rehearsal, runs the rehearsal harness, parses the chaos-mode output, and reports back. Same for plugin signing: the agent reads heliosproxy-plugin-sign-publish, runs cargo helios-plugin sign with the trust-root key, and pushes the signed OCI artefact. The skill makes the agent useful immediately, not after a 30-minute README spelunking session.
Other v0.4.2 changes
v0.4.1 (also May 1) was an internal cleanup release — removed legacy connection-pool path, unused fields, dead-code warnings, and tag-driven crates.io publish workflow. v0.4.0 patches in the v0.4.x line continue: shadow execution admin endpoint, plugin signature verification, edge / geo proxy mode, anomaly detection module. The full feature set is in the HeliosProxy product page.
HeliosProxy is open source under Apache 2.0. Repository: github.com/dimensigon/HDB-HeliosDB-Proxy.
